There are some important advantages of using bow-mounted trolling motors over a transom mount motor. The ability of a bow-mounted motor is to pull the boat in a straight line in any wind condition. The quick directional response is another advantage of a bow-mounted trolling motor. With this motor, you can spin left to right or right to left quickly when you are in a shallow water fishing environment.
There are some useful features that are added to the bow mount trolling motors which makes them great.
The motor is placed in the front of the boat and that pulls the boat in any direction. When you install the motor near the centerline of the boat, surely it will pull the boat in a straight line without handling. You can spin the boat left or right quickly by pressing the button.
Autopilot feature
The autopilot feature is available in a GPS-enabled motor. This feature helps you to control the boat without your need and also boat will automatically go in a straight line. There is another feature of GPS for the boat is a Spot lock or anchor. By pressing the button, your boat can stop and float in a position. This feature only works best on the slow current or light wind, from the motor the little backward pressure is provided to move the boat.
Transducer option
It is not much difficult to attach the transducer to the bow mount trolling motor. There are some wires that come with a transducer that goes under water. It should be taken proper care of and have zip ties to make it good to go. Transducers are placed at the bottom of bow mount trolling motors that avoid allowing the wires into the motor shaft. The transducer is available in all models of trolling motor.
A bow-mounted trolling motor can be a great place for active scan sonar. Usually, the transducer is large in size. When the boat is moving at cruising speed, it should be removed. Because these transducers must be taken from the water, they can only be installed by placing them on a retractable device or a trolling motor. The transducer I bought came with a mounting kit that gave me two options for attaching it to my trolling motor. Many manufacturers are using the active sonar platform, which allows you to observe the fish as they move about the boat. Having this type of active sonar in the lake and shallow structure regions can be really beneficial.
Removable bracket
A detachable bracket and plug for your bow mount trolling motor is a benefit to consider. If you place your trolling motor on a detachable bracket and power socket, you will be able to quickly unhook it from your boat and remove it if you are going to be fishing in an area where you will not need your engine.
Lightweight
Bow mount trolling motors are not very heavy; my motor, including the mounting kit, weighs little more than 65 pounds.
They can make the boat a touch front heavy on very tiny boats, but with good equipment location in your boat, it should balance out very easily. The batteries are often the heaviest component of a trolling motor setup. If you have a small boat, such as a 12-foot aluminum lake boat, place your batteries in the center, then examine your other equipment, such as your primary motor and gas tank, and you will have a proper balance.
